Sougia is governed administratively by the Municipality of Selino in the Prefecture of Chania and located in a distance of 70 roughly km south-western of Chania.

It is built in the ruins of the ancient Syias where mainly in the Roman and first Byzantine period people lived here. Saved ruins are vaulted graves and water reservoirs from the Roman period and a church from the 4th century with eminent mosaics. Near and in perimeter 3 km you can visit Byzantine churches from the 11th and 12th century with enough well maintained murals as: Agia Irini, Agios Nikolaos etc., the ancient city of Liso, the Gorge of Agia Irini and by ferry boat the beaches of south-western Crete and the Island of Gavdos.


How you go to the Sougia:

a) By boat from the Hora Sfakion and Palaiochora, and

b) By car from Chania to Sougia (70 kilometres southern from Chania).
